Louise Formicola - English Literature and Poetry

With a rich and diverse background, Louise Formicola brings a unique perspective to teaching English Literature and poetry. Her career began as a translator and interpreter for the Sicilian Law Courts, where she honed her linguistic precision and cultural insight. Transitioning from legal translation to education, she discovered her passion for teaching English to non-native speakers in Italy.

In 2014, Louise returned to the UK and joined Champs Learning, where she found the freedom to shape her teaching style, making it what she calls ‘the best job in the world’. She thrives on moments of student understanding, particularly when introducing challenging new concepts. As she describes it: "There’s nothing more rewarding than watching a student’s confusion transform into clarity—the lightbulb moment."

Louise is a strong advocate of traditional teaching methods, emphasising the importance of foundational skills like grammar and spelling. She believes these are essential building blocks for success, a philosophy that aligns perfectly with Champs Learning’s thorough and structured approach.

In addition to teaching A-levels, Louise has been instrumental in developing two English comprehension books tailored for 11+ students. Her focus is on exposing learners to a variety of topics, helping them build the resilience and adaptability needed to tackle unfamiliar material. Her innovative techniques for reading comprehension and speed reading further simplify complex concepts, ensuring students feel confident and prepared.

Specialising in GCSE, A-Level and IB English Literature and poetry, Louise is dedicated to nurturing her students' analytical and creative skills. Her dynamic approach and commitment to foundational excellence make her an inspiring mentor for students aiming to excel in academics and beyond.
